Physical Education
At Glenwood School, PE is taught from Year 7 through to Year 11. The guidelines from the National Curriculum forms the basis of how PE is taught. We believe that our pupils safety, health and wellbeing is of paramount importance, therefore in order to fully understand and maintain a healthy lifestyle, PE is an essential component of our school curriculum.
As a subject PE offers a variety of activities aimed at giving our students the widest range of experiences in physical activities and sports. Modules include individual active /non-active sports/games, team sports, fitness and exercise.
We offer opportunities for pupils to consolidate their learning from across the curriculum. They are required to use mathematical skills including; space, shape and measure, using and applying and number skills. Literacy skills such as reading and communication, as well as PSHE skills such as diet &nutrition, H&S, hygiene, relationships, dangers of drugs & alcohol, sharing, empathy, turn taking and fair play.
During Key Stage 3, the emphasis is on giving students the fundamental knowledge and skills required to participate safely in sport and exercise and to develop their fine and gross motor skills. This is achieved via a wide range of activities, all of which are differentiated so as to allow the individual to experience success, enjoyment and achievement.
During KS4 the emphasis is on fine tuning existing skills, developing their thinking/problem solving skills and preparing pupils for their Entry Level exam in PE.
